New Construction Waterproofing

Waterproofing Newly Constructed Chimney

A newly built masonry chimney is immediately vulnerable to water infiltration through porous brick, mortar joints, and unprotected crown and flashing connections.

Our team applied a complete, multi-layer chimney waterproofing system — sealing the crown, installing step and counter flashing, and applying vapor-permeable siloxane sealant — to deliver lifetime protection from the first day forward.

Project Overview

Restoring Structural Integrity and Preventing Future Water Intrusion

The Problem

Newly constructed masonry chimneys are highly porous — brick and mortar absorb water immediately upon exposure. Without proper sealing, moisture infiltration begins within the first rain cycle, accelerating long-term deterioration.

What We DID

We built and sealed a concrete chimney crown with elastomeric coating, installed step and counter flashing, added a stainless steel chimney cap, and applied a vapor-permeable siloxane sealer to all exposed masonry.

System Installed

Comprehensive chimney waterproofing system including a two-coat elastomeric crown coating, step and counter flashing system, stainless steel chimney cap, and a vapor-permeable siloxane masonry sealer.

The Result

A fully waterproofed chimney system built for long-term performance—breathable masonry, flexible flashing joints, and a sealed crown designed to shed water and resist freeze-thaw damage.

Before

Exposed new masonry — porous brick and mortar joints unprotected from rain infiltration.

After

Sealed crown, installed flashing, stainless cap, and vapor-permeable sealant — fully protected.

Project Timeline

A Step-by-Step Restoration Process Built to Last

Every project follows a proven process to ensure proper preparation, waterproofing, and long-term durability. Here’s how we waterproofed this newly constructed chimney.

1

INITIAL CONDITION & ASSESSMENT

2

DEMOLITION & SURFACE REMOVAL

3

SURFACE PREPARATION & SETUP

4

WATERPROOFING SYSTEM INSTALLATION

5

FINISHING & FINAL RESULT

1

INITIAL CONDITION & ASSESSMENT

We inspect all chimney components — brick, mortar joints, crown form, roof junction, and flue — to map every vulnerability before any work begins.

2

DEMOLITION & SURFACE REMOVAL

A sloped concrete crown is formed to overhang the chimney edges. Two coats of sealer are applied for a flexible, waterproof membrane.

3

SURFACE PREPARATION & SETUP

L-shaped step flashing is woven into shingle courses, with counter flashing set into mortar joints and sealed for a watertight overlap.

4

WATERPROOFING SYSTEM INSTALLATION

A chimney cap is installed to block rain and debris, and a sealer is applied across all masonry surfaces for protection.

5

FINISHING & FINAL RESULT

Every sealed surface, flashing joint, and crown edge is now fully protected, it repels water without trapping moisture inside.
